Size of Queen Bed
Making the Most out of the Size of a Queen
Bed: For some, creating a unique ambience in one’s
bedroom is no easy task. They take great lengths at
planning and deciding which part of the bedroom to focus
on.
Some may want to take advantage of the lovely
garden view from the bedroom window, others like to
create a cozy nook for reading, and others chose to put
everything in its place making the room always spanking
neat. For many, the bed always takes center stage. We
can’t blame them – no bedroom is complete without a
bed!
Is The Size of A Queen Bed
The Right Size For
You?
When choosing a bed, many factors come into
play. The size and shape of the bedroom, the sides where
the windows are situated and the location where other
furniture are placed are just some of the considerations
that need to be looked at. Small spaces can only
accommodate small bedroom furniture, including bed. It
can be quite difficult fitting in too many furnishings in
a square room. Most bedrooms are rectangular in shape.
And the best bet for this shape of room is a queen bed.
The size of a queen bed, which is 60” x 80”, is wider and
longer than a full bed. This makes it ideal for
guestrooms and smaller master bedrooms. This size is
roomy enough for the “sprawlers”, or sleepers who like to
move a lot even while at rest. It can also provide at
least 30 inches of sleeping space each for two
adults.
The size of a queen bed encourages one to put
all his or her creative juices to work. It can be quite a
challenge positioning a queen bed if it’s placed in a
small master’s bedroom just as it can be so much more
interesting sprucing it up when it’s used in a guestroom.
Here are ways on how to make the most out of the size of
your queen bed:
-
Measure the bedroom’s floor area and
make a sketch to scale to plan where to best
position your queen bed. Leave enough room for
access on both sides of the bed if you are going
to use it as a couple. You may push the bed
against a corner and leave just one side
available for access if you are a single adult.
Keep the bed away from the window for safety
reasons, especially in places where storms are
frequent.
-
When a queen size bed is used in a small
room, an illusion of space may be created by
painting the walls with cheery colors, such
yellow or golden hues to brighten up the space.
To divert the focus on the smallness of a room,
you may paint some upward stripes on one side of
the room.
-
Your bed may be placed at the longest
part of the wall where a nightstand or a chest of
drawers may be put beside it. A tall chest of
drawers makes for better storage than wide
drawers in a limited floor area. Wall lamps may
be installed instead of bedside lamps to maximize
space. A TV mounted on the wall will likewise
save floor space.
-
Using a bed skirt for your queen bed
does not only make your bed look regal but it
also helps create more storage space under it.
Flat plastic boxes under the bed can store bed
linen and not -frequently-used or out-of season
wardrobe.
The size of a queen bed can be quite a concern
for some, while others use it as a source of inspiration
and motivation in bedroom design and decorating. It all
depends on how creative and resourceful one
gets.
