Do you know the dimensions of a Queen Size Bed? As we all know, the bed sizes vary but do we all know the difference among these sizes? How well do we know the measurements of these beds?

It often happens that a couple purchases a bed but then they realize that it is not the right one and that they had not taken the dimensions into consideration. They then have no option other than squeezing themselves into a full size bed. Let us examine the dimensions of a Queen Size Bed.

A Queen Size Bed can fit in a normal room and it provides a bit more space than the Full or Double bed without occupying much more of the floor space.

  • In comparison to Twin bed, they are 21" wider and 5" longer.

  • In comparison to Double size bed, they are 6" wider and 5" longer.

This extra length and width definitely makes a difference in obtaining a good night’s sleep but still in comparison to twin bed accommodating two adults, each adult person gets 9" lesser width in the case of a Queen size bed. It fits in well in smaller master bedrooms and guest rooms. They are popular as in general their dimensions are sufficient to most people.

Dimensions:

60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm) – Mattress Size

60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm) – Fitted Sheet Size

90 x 102 inches (or 228 x 259 cm) – Flat Sheet Size

86 x 86 inches (or 218 x 218 cm) – Comforter Size

Width (per person): 30"

Pros: It provides more space than a double bed for two adults. The 5" extra length suits most adults. The blankets and sheets for this size can be found easily and are less pricey than the king size bedding. Queen pillows or standard size pillows fit well.

Cons: For a couple to sleep everyday on a Queen bed, it might be too narrow as it has only 30" of personal sleeping space for each adult which is just 3" more when compared to a Double bed. Another disadvantage is that, the stores sell certain bedding as “Full/Queen” but they don’t really fit into either of the beds perfectly. Therefore, it is necessary to check the dimensions of the bedding before purchase to ensure that it fits in comfortably.

There is a slightly larger Queen Size bed available known as “Olympic Queen”. When you buy bedding for it, make sure that it fits in properly since Standard Queen Size bedding might not fit correctly in them. Then, it will require that you purchase a King Size Sheet and alter it to fit your needs.

Let us consider the bedding that would go with the mattress. In order to have the bedding to fit with the queen size bed, we need to understand that there are two types of bed sheets available – fitted type and the flat type. The fitted type sheets have the garter or elastic sewn on its corners which ensure that the sheet is always straight and does not move while we move during our sleep. Hence it suits those who prefer their sheets to stay in place and it comes in many designs. The flat type sheets do not have the garter at their corners and are bigger than the dimensions of queen size bed and are comfortable enough as the fitted type sheets.
